The Honors Student Council is comprised of Honors students from a variety of backgrounds and academic concentrations. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are all active members of the council and contribute greatly in terms of ideas, efforts, and time. Every year, executive officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant-at-Arms) are elected by the general Honors student population, and chairs (Academic, Social, Literary, Historians, and Webmasters) are appointed by the outgoing executive council. Elections occur every April and are conducted via the web-ballot system on ULink. The officers for this year are listed below.
Greg Shaw
Greg Shaw President

Greg Shaw is a senior at the University of Louisville pursuing a biology major and a math minor.  With his degree, Greg plans to attend medical school.  While not studying or working on other school related stuff, Greg likes to hang out with friends and family, workout, play sports, and have random spontaneous adventures.  He is always around on campus as he is actively involved with the Honors Program (particularly HSC), GRASS (Group Recycling And Sustainable Solutions), and ULDM (University of Louisville Dance Marathon).  If you are interested in learning more about any of those organizations on campus just email him at geshaw01@louisville.edu.  Furthermore, Greg loves the city of Louisville as he has lived here his entire life and hopes that you will enjoy your experiences in Louisville as well!

Annie Nutter
Annie Nutter Secretary

Annie Nutter is the secretary for Honors Student Council this year, bringing you the best of meeting minutes and other records with perhaps a few other fun events on the side. She is a junior year history and anthropology double major. When asked the dreaded question, "Oh, what do you want to do with that?" she is finally able to respond that she is considering law school or pursuing a masters degree in history. She is also involved in several other campus organizations, including the Honors Volunteer Program, Honors Scholars, the UofL Marching Band, GRASS, Ultimate Frisbee intramural team (as a member of 500 mLs of Chronic Anger), the Anthropology Student Association and Catholic Campus Ministry. Needless to say, she keeps very busy. Feel free to contact her at alnutt01@louisville.edu.

Joseph Moore
Joseph Moore Sargeant at Arms

Joseph Moore is a senior majoring in Mathematics and Chemistry.  With a naturally loud voice and generally obnoxious personality, he fits perfectly into the position of Sergeant-at-Arms, though his physique may suggest otherwise.  Joseph enjoys tennis, volleyball, and any other racquet-inspired sport under the sun.  He one day hopes to perform on the street as a one-man clown act.  The juggling and balloon animals are already on his CV.

Katie Trimble
Katie Trimble HVP Chair

Katie Trimble is a senior studying Biology and French from Winchester, Ky. This year, Katie is serving as the Honors Student Council Volunteer Chair and Honors Volunteer Program Coordinator. In addition to her involvement in HSC and HVP, Katie is the Board President for the University of Louisville Dance Marathon, and a volunteer at American Community Center. Outside of her campus activities, Katie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, running, traveling, and  drinking hazelnut coffee.

Olivia Sailor
Olivia Sailor Social Chair

Olivia Sailor is one of your three beautiful social chairs who tend to the multi-monthly social needs of honor students. Unlike many other famous trios of the universe, the social chairs can not 1.) sing in perfect harmony together, 2.) speak french/fence, or 3.) predict what social events will be successful. With that in mind, Olivia and her lovely companions are constantly seeking sage advice from any source willing to proffer it, witty ideas from clever and sociable honor students, and new delectable restaurants to try.
Besides laboring away at making the greater Louisville area a more interesting place for Honors students, Olivia mostly spends her days figuring out ways to work her life around her schedule. She's a biology major that does not wish to be a doctor and thus must seek new and innovative ways to spice up her resume. Currently, she's the president of GRASS, UofL's environmental club. As president, she spends more of her time hugging giant papier mache globes and writing emails than anyone really has a right to. When Olivia is not in class, working in the Humanities building, trying to save the world, or socializing with people, she tends to sleep a lot, avoid talking about herself in the third person(unless making a reference to Silence of the Lambs), and when the fancy strikes her, she likes to crochet purple cephalopods and read Dinosaur Comics.

Jordan Burns
Jordan Burns Social Chair

Jordan Burns came to UofL from Catlettsburg, a small town hidden within the hills of Eastern Kentucky. She is majoring in Biology and working on a Religious Studies minor with the intention of going to medical school. Aside from being a Social Co-Chair for HSC, Jordan is secretary of the Biology Undergraduate Society, acts as a Shadow Host for the Admissions Office, and is a volunteer for Youth for Understanding (a cultural exchange program, through which Jordan was an exchange student in Brazil in 2008). In her spare time, Jordan does Lucille Ball impersonations, watches ER and House, and dreams of visiting every inch of the earth someday. She specifically loves the ethnic dinner and dessert outings that HSC hosts.

Sarah Becker
Sarah Becker Social Chair

Sarah Becker is a senior from Hopkinsville, KY, majoring in math and
Spanish, with minors in philosophy and humanities.  After finishing her
degree at U of L, she hopes to attend graduate school for Urban and
Environmental Planning.  In addition to Honors Student Council, Sarah is
involved in GRASS (U of L’s environmental club), is a master tutor for
REACH in math, and serves as a Shadow Host for the university.  She
likes to spend her spare time biking, knitting, doing yoga, drinking
tea, and saving the world one bottle at a time.

Greer Waldrop
Greer Waldrop Academic Chair

Greer Waldrop Academic Chair Greer Waldrop is a junior Biology and Anthropology double major, with a Religious Studies Minor. She is originally from Paducah, KY, where she attended Paducah Tilghman High School. She has hopes of becoming an international doctor and working in the public health field at home and abroad. She works at the Interfaith Center on campus. When she is not studying she likes to dance, and always appreciates a delicious meal & a funny joke!

Michael Miao
Michael Miao Publicity chair

Michael Miao Treasurer Michael Miao is currently a sophomore Biochemistry major from Murray, KY. He came to the United States from China in the 6th grade. After experiencing massive culture shock here in the States, Michael decided that he wanted to serve as the Treasurer for the Honors Student Council at UofL one day…and sure enough, that is what he does today. While Michael spends a good portion of his daily life in R.E.M. sleep, he accomplishes a lot while he’s awake. Like…playing World of Warcraft and X-box…and studying…and more World of Warcraft.

Valerie Gibbs
Valerie Gibbs Publicity chair

Valerie Gibbs serves as the Publicity Chair for the Honors Student Council. She graduated from Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg, Ky, not too far away from the capitol. This year, Valerie is a sophomore Biochemistry, Pre-Dental Major and Spanish minor. She enjoys the variety of science classes and hopes to attend Dental School at the University of Texas after finishing her undergraduate at the University of Louisville. Valerie also enjoys getting very involved on campus through the Biology Undergraduate Society, the Society of Undergraduate Chemistry Students, Spanish Club, Marching Band, Honors Student Council, Honors Volunteer Program, and the Alpha Phi Omega Co-ed Service Fraternity. She also had the honor of becoming a First Year Guide and a Bonner Leader this year. In her spare time, Valerie enjoys playing music, watching scary movies, giving manicures and being outside. Valerie enjoys the community and friendship found in the Honors Student Council, and as the Publicity Chair, she hopes to keep the honors community aware of various upcoming events. Valerie can be contacted at vdgibb01@louisville.edu.

Kirstin Henry
Kirstin Henry Historian

Kirstin Henry is a sophomore at U of L from Marshall County, Kentucky.
She is a Public Health major and Communications minor but her specific
career aspirations are yet to be determined. However, if it is at all
possible, she hopes her additional passion for travel will one day allow
her to visit all 50 states and go to all 7 continents ( So far she’s up
to 28 and an amazing 2!). Other than her position as Historian for HSC,
Kirstin is also a member of HVP, the Marching Band, Pep Band, and a
photographer for the Cardinal-our campus newspaper.  She also enjoys
many forms of dance and loves to play a good game of volleyball!
